UX Research Associate

MauroNewMedia, one of the most experienced UX/usability research consulting firms in the U.S., currently seeks a research associate to join our team. We are a highly specialized boutique research firm with leading Fortune 500 clients. Founded in 1975, we are well known for executing complex, leading-edge research studies combining ergonomics, human factors engineering, and market research methods. Our group is an award-winning research team with a history of solving complex usability problems based on the application of formal usability science and human factors expertise. We provide highly focused research utilized by leading clients in the resolution of strategic and tactical problems associated with the usability and user acceptance of complex high-technology products and services. This is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate with undergraduate/graduate studies in applied psychology, UX research, human factors engineering or formal HCI research looking to gain significant experience working hands-on with planning, executing, and analyzing UX research data for leading clients in a wide range of industry sectors. Detailed experience with formative and summative usability studies for FDA drug delivery device approval is a major advantage.

Job Description: Primary responsibility is to assist with and eventually have responsibility for the design and execution of research programs working under senior researchers or partners of the firm. You will assist in planning, coordinating and observing one-on-one user testing sessions, developing and overseeing large-sample online surveys, and assisting with a wide variety of research projects undertaken by the firm for our clients. Our studies routinely combine formal cognitive modeling and physiological variables with human performance measurement. Responsibilities will also include analyzing findings and assisting in the development of presentations and client reports. A working knowledge of statistics and experimental study design is required. There is extensive opportunity to draft complex reports utilized in FDA device approvals and other documents including research white papers for leading corporate clients. We encourage publication of non-confidential studies and routinely provide authorship and award citations to those who contribute to critical research findings. You will also be responsible for background research, summarizing existing research data, and maintaining our online research data resources and related data generation systems. This is a highly focused, small-team environment with a history of producing industry-leading UX research insights.

Salary and Benefits: Based in Manhattan, we offer a competitive salary and benefits structure including profit sharing options. Graduate students or recent college graduates who have completed major coursework in psychology involving marketing/consumer research, HFE or UX research are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be able to work in Manhattan full time and travel to clients without limitation during the week and occasionally on the weekends. This is a full-time salaried position. Requirements:

  • Must have working knowledge of research statistics and detailed experience with experimental study design, data analysis, report creation and editing.

We have a special interest in cognitive modeling and structured test and evaluation methods. An ability to solve complex man-machine problems in creative and cost effective ways also a major plus.

We are especially interested in individuals with a proven track record in ID projects that are heavily driven by formal design research. We are seeking individuals who have a proven ability to deliver highly refined aesthetic solutions that respond to formal production and usability requirements. The key individual must be fluent in all major CAD related programs and have an ability to rapidly learn new design tools. Experience with consumer and light/heavy industrial applications is a major plus. Having previously worked successfully with in a combined UX/ID design group is also highly desirable.

Interaction Design Intern

Job Description: Primary responsibility is to work in a supporting function to senior members of our UI design and research team. You will contribute to design solutions based on initial conceptual and visual design direction provided by senior designers or partners of the firm. You will assist in creating design solutions (mockups and comps) for a wide range of software and web-based interface products. Responsibilities may include creating simulations, mockups, visual design assets and design concepts for actual projects. You will also assist partners in preparation of sales and marketing materials and maintenance of project methodology systems.

This is a paid internship. Current college, graduate students, or recent college graduates who have completed significant course work or internships involving user interface designs for software and websites are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be able to work on-site a minimum of 16-24 hours a week. Exceptional performance may lead to full-time employment.

Requirements: Self-motivated individuals with demonstrated excellence in creating interactive design solutions. Areas of demonstrated excellence should cover overall user flow, navigation, page design, visual interface design and usability.

Diligent, focused, strong attention to detail, and able to follow direction well
Strong skills in interaction design, graphic design, web programming (simplified).
Proficiency with core MS Office programs, Adobe CS 4-5 applications such as Photoshop and Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash is critical.

Working knowledge of user-centered design processes, HTML and design trends are a plus.
